Selling Your Home Quickly – Tips for When Your Home is on the Market

Once you’ve got the home on the market, your life is going to change.

There’s an old saying: “You don’t sell a house the same way you live in a house,” and it is very true.

From now until you have a solid purchase contract, you’re going to have to think about the fact that buyers could be wanting to see your house at almost any time – and you may not be available to tidy up when you learn that they’re on the way.

You could restrict your showing hours – but that will also restrict your chances of a sale, so it’s not a good idea. It’s better to remain “Show ready” at all times.

To accomplish that, you should enlist cooperation from everyone in your household, and then start some new rituals. For instance:

  • Coats, shoes, and boots go in the closet when they come off.
  • The dishes get washed and put away right after the evening meal.
  • “Evening” dishes & breakfast or lunch dishes get stashed in the dishwasher.
  • The laundry gets folded as it comes out of the dryer, then put away promptly.
  • Toys go in the toy box as part of getting ready for bed.
  • Towels get hung neatly or tossed in a covered hamper.
  • All personal mail, etc. goes into a drawer or file – never left on counters or desk tops.
  • Money and credit cards go in wallets, purses, or a locked drawer / safe. In addition, remove any prescription drugs from the medicine cabinet – where a visitor might be looking around while unaccompanied.
  • The garbage goes outside every night.
  • Today’s clothing either goes back in the closet or in the hamper as you get ready for bed.
  • Beds are made immediately upon rising.
  • Toiletries and other personal care items go back in the drawer or cupboard immediately after use.

These suggestions – and more that you’ll think of yourself – will reduce your stress levels and ensure that your home is always “show ready.”

Living in a “show home” isn’t the easiest task in the world. But it will help your home stand out from the rest.

P.S. Powerful marketing is another piece of the “quick sale” puzzle – and when you list with me, I’ll see to it that your home gets maximum exposure in the marketplace.
